Jan Ybema (1991) works at the Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning in Leeuwarden (The Netherlands). He is as a research assistant in the Global Citizenship project and he is an editor of Regional Dossiers.
Jan studied Frisian Language and Culture (BA), Modern History and International Relations (ReMa) and Middle Eastern Studies (MA) at the University of Groningen (RuG).
As a student-assistant at the Frisian department of the RuG, he contributed to developing the curriculum for the Minorities and Multilingualism study programme.
Since 2017 he has worked as a journalist for the regional newspaper Friesch Dagblad. He is the author of 'Een kleine geschiedenis van Friesland voor dummies' [A short history of Friesland for beginners] (2017).
